MOUNTAIN RAISED MEATS

At KB Farm, we have spent a great deal of time researching specific breeds of cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, and turkeys that can handle the Arizona climate, are calm tempered, and produce top quality meat, excellent taste and marbling. Below are the breeds of animals that we raise and a little history about them.

Breeds we raise

  • Dexter Cattle

Dexter’s originated from Ireland in the late 1800s. They are a smaller breed. (Half the size of Angus cattle.) Dexter’s milk are high in protein and butterfat content and they are considered prolific milkers. Because of their calm temperament, they make an excellent family milk cow. Dexter’s have a longer life span which allows them to produce more offspring’s. Unlike other breeds, Dexters produce excellent marbling meat, no matter their age.

  • Berkshire Pigs

We raise Old English Berkshire pigs. This breed originates from England. They are a heritage breed highly sought after for their marbling and tenderness. They are a fast-growing pig that produces exceptional taste and flavor. Our herd has sought after genetic traits. We are the #1 breeders in the State of Arizona.

  • Suffolk Sheep

Suffolk sheep originate from Suffolk, England. They are a hardy breed that provide high-quality meat and wool. Lamb and mutton meat tend to be lean and slightly sweet.

  • Cornish Cross Chickens

Cornish cross chickens are specifically bred for meat production. They grow quickly which produces very tender meat.

  • Broad Breasted Turkeys

Broad breasted turkeys are excellent at producing a high breast meat yield and fast growth. They are known for their tenderness and quality of meat.

Our animal’s health and diet are our top priorities.

We work hard to make sure our animals have the best life and the best feed. We work with a feed mill and nutritionist for all of our animal’s feed. We make sure they get a proper diet along with the minerals and supplements they need.

Our animals are NEVER treated with hormones and only use antibiotics when necessary.

We don’t cut corners or take short cuts at our farm. We know that well cared for and healthy animals produce top quality meat and that is what we strive for.

PORK

We take pride in the quality of pork we produce. Our pasture raised pigs are fed high quality feed that is milled fresh each week along with grain. Berkshire pork is renowned for its richness, texture, marbling, juiciness, tenderness and overall depth of flavor. Pigs are different from other livestock; the fat that they eat is redistributed into their muscle fiber. That means pigs are, literally, what they eat. So, making sure our pigs are fed right with the ability to roam free on the land is very important to us.

BEEF AND LAMB

GRASS FED, GRASS FINISHED.

We want our cows and sheep to graze on grass as much as possible. Not only is that good for their health, but it helps produce the quality of meat we strive for. When our cows and sheep are unable to graze, we feed some of the highest quality hay on the market.

We have sourced hay from a Southern Utah farmer that believes in the same farming practices as we do. He grows a Non-GMO seed, He doesn’t spray his hay fields with any pesticides or chemicals, and He steam bales the hay. Those 3 things are super important to us when trying to feed our cows and sheep the best hay available.

We believe that feeding grass with added supplements of vitamins and minerals necessary for their health, the results are a nutritionally balanced, sustainable feed that creates a marbled meat that you will love.
